Hello, I'm Maria
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What started as a temporary contract gradually turned into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn’t in the grand plan. Like many international relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new habits, fresh expectations. Daily chores seemed tougher than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt steady.
Why I Created Velvet Zenith Sand
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourist content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience gained from living in Portugal
- Centered on family living and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our time in Portugal continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, please reach out.
Warm regards,
Maria
